Many business owners are investing in a video marketing strategy in 2020. In this week’s episode, Tamara Thompson talks about 11 innovative approaches to improve video marketing for businesses.
Part One of ’11 Innovative Approaches to Improve Video Marketing’
Before anything else, you must know your audience. Ask your clients why did they come to you in the first place, right? What was the problem that they came to you about, for you to help them? Does your content reflect what your audience needs to watch to do your research? What are prospects researching, and what do they want to learn about?
“You need a strategic plan to get your video message across powerfully.” — Tamara Thompson (02:09-02:11)
Make sure you have proper video descriptions, and tagging is in alignment, which is super critical. Do more in-depth research from keywords that are trending, what is popular, and not on YouTube and Google. Create a spreadsheet on keywords, phrases, and the amount of traffic searching for that content monthly. Make a list of topics that you would like to create videos on then run it through YouTube. See what the topics auto-generate like healing music, healing scriptures, healing meditation, etc. Look for old videos with high view count to know if it is the right phrase to focus on. Also, be sure to analyze the video itself to see where their content or presentation could be lacking to make yours stronger and more original. Create an intriguing title to make sure your content drives results.
The title needs to be just as well-researched as the information it contains. This is the part where almost everyone gets super lazy. Create titles based on keyword research. From there, you can use the titles and to produce compelling and congruent content. It’s a process, and if you are hiring a solo videographer, all these steps will likely be missed. Your videos will be missing the critical elements because videographers focus on creative visuals. Find a passionate team, not just about the video but the marketing side as well. Channel the message of the video. Plan out your video messaging strategically. Not everyone is a fantastic talker and can speak off the cusp. Some people write scripts to get the messaging across strategically and powerfully. Make sure to show the benefit, not the feature. So, planning is a critical part of the process. Not only is the research so important, but pre-production is also 85% of the essential part of production in general. List all the different shots that you’re needed as a storyboard or a story map. Draw out the simple drawing of any complex shots or transitions. This is optional, but it’s helpful at times.
Part Two of ’11 Innovative Approaches to Improve Video Marketing’
Come up with additional creative footage that will make your story pop and come to life. Use video content generated by customers. Ask your favorite customers to be on camera and talk about how your product, service, or experience has benefited them. Film it in a documentary style. Have them feel comfortable doing it without any script. Just prepare them an outline and ask them some questions and provide it for them so they can share their insights honestly.
What emotions are you trying to evoke? What do you want your audience to feel after watching your videos? Different kinds of emotions resonate with different people on different levels. For example, if you’re a business coach for women, you might consider having more of an inspiring content that stimulates joy. Don’t be boring. You’re the teleprompter. You need to make sure you don’t sound boring, or you’re robotic. You can overlay creative visuals or additional footage to spice up your speaking portions. People who demonstrate passion and energy on camera are more likely to hold a viewer’s attention than being monotone or boring.
