Video games have become a billion-dollar industry, with millions of people all around the world playing and enjoying video games on a daily basis. With the rise of digital marketing and social media, the way video games are marketed has changed significantly over the years. However, there is still a need for further evolution in the way video games are marketed to consumers.
One of the biggest issues with video game marketing is the reliance on traditional advertising methods. While television commercials and print ads are still used, they are becoming increasingly less effective in reaching the modern gaming audience. Many gamers, especially younger ones, are now turning to social media and online platforms for their gaming news and information. This means that video game marketers need to shift their focus to digital marketing in order to reach their target audience.
Another problem with video game marketing is the lack of diversity in marketing strategies. Often, video game marketing is targeted towards a specific demographic, such as young males. This narrow focus ignores the fact that gaming is now enjoyed by people of all ages and genders. Video game marketers need to recognize and embrace the diversity of their audience and create marketing strategies that reach a wider range of gamers.
Furthermore, there needs to be a shift in the way video game marketing is done in terms of transparency and ethical practices. The gaming industry has faced criticism for misleading marketing tactics, such as using pre-rendered footage to falsely represent the game’s actual graphics or gameplay. Video game marketers need to be more transparent in their marketing efforts and provide consumers with accurate information about the games they are promoting.
In addition, video game marketing needs to focus more on community engagement. Gamers are passionate about their hobby and often turn to online communities and forums to discuss and share their gaming experiences. Marketers need to tap into this community and engage with gamers on a more personal level, rather than just bombarding them with advertising messages.
Finally, video game marketing needs to embrace the power of influencer marketing. Many gamers rely on the opinions of their favorite YouTubers, Twitch streamers, and other gaming influencers when making purchasing decisions. Video game marketers need to recognize the influence of these content creators and collaborate with them to reach a wider audience and generate more excitement for their games.
In conclusion, video game marketing needs to change in order to keep up with the evolving gaming landscape. Marketers need to shift their focus to digital marketing, embrace diversity, be transparent in their practices, engage with the gaming community, and leverage the power of influencer marketing. By adapting and evolving their marketing strategies, video game marketers can better connect with their audience and create more successful and impactful marketing campaigns.
Remember when Eddie didn't suck? Me neither cause he scrubbed it lol
If cyberpunk released in the state it is now it would be regarded as one of the best open world rpg games ever made
Don’t get the cyberpunk hate. I didn’t follow the marketing particularly closely or anything, but it was one of the first games I bought for the new console gen and I had a great time with it. Personally, I think it absolutely succeeds at the things it tries to do. I’ve played my share of open world RPGS, and tbh the newer AC games are two or three times as buggy. But they get a free pass ig. Cyberpunk for me was one of the best rpg experiences I’ve had on this gen. I honestly enjoyed it more than elden ring.
thing is with no man's sky is that weirdly, the game would probably be worse if they only released it today. so many of the updates and features are taken from the direction the community wants for the game, which wouldn't have happened if it was just in development the whole time behind closed doors. It would have probably gone down a whole lot better in the public's eyes if it released into early access, then got these updates over the years before finally releasing as a whole game.
As a game dev who draws sprites, I drew the chairs after about 40-50 character sprites were finished.
Im so sick of the glitch clips montage with in the hall of the mountain king playing in the background its in every other video and its obnoxious
Very clear and inspiring. To be honest, I want to be a marketer in the game industry in the future. Though I want to access more costomers to make my games sell better, it is still really stupid and risky to do some fake or over marketing. Do not set such a high expectation to your users. Just advertise what you have finished and be honest to your future customers.
watchdogs is a bad example
do your research
Hey wheres the other one
Just watched the full video again and deleted my comment. As a Marketer, I agree.
📌The problem is the USA's consumer protection is so toothless. During Fallout 3's release they advertised a special edition that included a real helmet along with the game. Tons of people didn't receive the helmet and nobody was held responsible. If that happened in my country, the company would be in deep shït with false advertising. They would be summoned to the Senate and fines would rain down on them.
Imagine CDPR, one who considers itself as pro-consumer studio, joined the club with Bethesda, people love being lied to their faces, and now people are hyped on Starfield, I guess people never learn
"Let's all laugh at an industry
That never learns anything, tee hee hee"
It just works.
Cyberpunk wasn't boring because of its bugs, cyberpunk was boring because to was an average game. Even when you fix the bugs, you still have to deal with the fact that you have a boring game. Which most games are.
The idea that the same people making the games are making the marketing decisions is just wrong. Yes they are apart of the same companies but entirely different people with entirely different skills and responsibilities are marketing these games. The developers and the people actually working on the game part of the game have no say in how these games are marketed. These companies just aren't that small anymore.
This shit is the reason
“Show us gameplay or we riot”
Type messages are RAMPANT in every game livestream. We’ve been burned too many times.
Cyberpunk was SO STUPID for trying to develop for last gen AND next gen simultaneously. I feel like that alone set them up for failure. The description of the game they were pitching IMMEDIATELY screamed to me "that's not gonna be able to run on last gen". Like…just straight up sounded impossible to run well on PS4 and PS4 slim. And….it indeed didn't
It is nice to know, two years later, Cyberpunk 2077 would turn into, not what it was promised to be god no, but a really fun fast paced FPSRPG… or security camera sim if you're a runner
"This is how every game is marketed"
he never heard of dwarf fortress
who cares, no one should ever buy a bethesda game ever again.
They are just microtransactions and bugs anyway
As a Zelda fan, and my co-host being a cyberpunk fan we both agree to this. He wishes he would've chilled on Projekt Red cuz it killed his hype and replay ability. While I'm here with 300+ hours of Tears of the Kingdom. Show what you have, and dont bullshit the consumer.
Very straightforward video. I like it.
This video, just works.
I'm playing Cyberpunk right now and mostly enjoying it so far (story sucks, I wanted to play a scrappy upstart not someone who's destiny is already settled). FO4 on the other hand I got some ways in and it felt like an awful chore
0:19 starfield
CDPR publicly circle-jerked their game around the Internet for 5 years, constantly, and the shilling from fans was immense. The crow they all had to eat was such a satisfying sight to behold. CP2077 is a fine game for what it is 3 years later, but GODDAMN… That whole event gave a lot of people a wake-up call. Video game marketing has definitely been changed by it. I've seen many companies tone down their typical false advertising, even Todd seems to have been a lot more reserved with his wording.
I honestly like cyberpunk 2077 its cool
Wtf is a chair?
except cyberpunk actually became, almost, everything they promised it would be
The fact that he says "being that we are Bethesda" before lying through his teeth says it all lol
Being that weee areeeee bethesssdaaaaa -a snake
I can’t wait for starfield to fail. And for overwatch 2 to not have any player base.
Now people are getting duped into thinking the game is good because they released a pretty good Netflix show. They're playing everyone for fools
I'm a rebel rocker boy, who's too cool for school. I'm rough around the edges but have a tender side.
04:00 Late chairs response from a gamedev: you do chairs as part of props set. So, you do them in parallel with characters (probably, even waaaay before, since props / env models are waaaaay easier).
