YouTube has become one of the most popular platforms for video advertising, with billions of users watching videos every day. If you want to reach a wider audience and promote your brand through video ads, setting up a YouTube ad campaign is a great way to do it. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of setting up a video YouTube ad campaign using Google AdWords in 2018.
Step 1: Create a Google AdWords account
The first step in setting up a video YouTube ad campaign is to create a Google AdWords account. If you already have an account, you can skip this step. Simply go to the AdWords website and sign up for an account using your email address.
Step 2: Link your YouTube channel to your AdWords account
Once you have created your AdWords account, you will need to link your YouTube channel to it. This will allow you to create video ads and track their performance. To link your YouTube channel, go to the “Linked accounts” section in the AdWords dashboard and click on “YouTube.”
Step 3: Create a video ad campaign
Now that your YouTube channel is linked to your AdWords account, you can create a new video ad campaign. To do this, click on the “Campaigns” tab in the AdWords dashboard and then click on the “+” button to create a new campaign. Select the “Video” campaign type and choose your campaign settings, such as budget, targeting options, and ad formats.
Step 4: Create your video ad
After setting up your campaign, you will need to create your video ad. You can either upload an existing video from your YouTube channel or create a new one specifically for the ad campaign. Make sure your video is engaging and relevant to your target audience. You can choose from different ad formats, such as in-stream ads (played before, during, or after other videos) or video discovery ads (displayed alongside other YouTube videos).
Step 5: Set up targeting and bidding options
Next, you will need to set up targeting and bidding options for your video ad campaign. You can target your ads based on demographics, interests, keywords, and placements. You can also set your bidding strategy and budget for the campaign. It is recommended to start with a lower bid and increase it as you see results.
Step 6: Monitor and optimize your campaign
Once your video ad campaign is live, it is important to monitor its performance and make necessary adjustments to optimize it. Track key metrics such as views, clicks, conversions, and engagement. Use this data to make informed decisions about your targeting, bidding, and ad creatives. Experiment with different strategies to see what works best for your brand.
Setting up a video YouTube ad campaign using Google AdWords is a great way to reach a wider audience and promote your brand through engaging video content. By following this tutorial and monitoring your campaign closely, you can create successful video ads that drive results.

Great video, thanks for taking the time to complete it
No I don't have AD blocker on, I did eventually see one. My concern is that if on 98% of the videos that I watch and I watch a fair amount almost never have "Discovery" (or what ever they are calling it this week) AD show up on the suggested sidebar, so if I am paying YT for Discovery/Display ADs who will see them? They don't appear to be that popular? I am not trying to promote a third party website or company but the Video/My channel itself. So not sure if using You Tube's AD platform is good for promoting videos on their own platform? Or so it seems. Also this video really only went in to Pre-Roll/In-Stream did not really cover Discovery /Display. And another thing. I clicked on one of my own videos and about 3 or so minutes in to it a small AD appeared on the bottom–of someone else's video… so did that person target my video? And what kind of AD is this? I don't think it is Pre-roll, Is this an In-Stream AD? It did not interrupt the video just popped up. Just strange that it was for someone else's channel.
In the example above for the Trueview Video Discovery Ads you show a screen shot with a Video below the "Up Next" right hand column which has the yellow "AD" button. However, I NEVER see this when I am on You Tube. I tried an experiment and I literally clicked on about 30 videos of both You-Tubers that I follow and those who I do not follow and I tried it while being logged in to my account and on another browser while not being logged in to my account and I also tried it doing an organic search, I NEVER had a video on the up-next column have the AD button on it. So if I never see this, then that leads me to believe other–and by other I mean all other You Yube viewers are also NOT seeing videos with the AD button in the up-next column. Sooooooo if no one is seeing these Trueview Video Discovery Ads where are they going? And why would someone pay for an AD no one sees????? Did Google change things yet once again?
I am an artist looking to market my music videos and songs.. even in my situation placing my add under related artists music videos that wouldnt be good ? Or regardless i still need a big budget for that ?
What are your thoughts on having a music video as an Ad on Google Adwords? Do they work in terms of getting views or subscribers?
Dam he spent $877 and only got 360 clicks. Waste of money
Can i use my unlisted video as an instream video ad or must it be public ??

Would you recommend to spend low budgets in different ads to find the correct advertising campaign and then spending all your budget in it? Imagine I have like 4k to spend, should I spend like $20 on 5 different ads then spend the rest on the best campaign? Thanks! 🙂
