In 1998, Purdue Pharma, a pharmaceutical company, released a marketing video to promote their prescription opioid painkiller, OxyContin. The video, which was intended for healthcare professionals, was part of the company’s aggressive marketing campaign to boost sales of their new product.
The promotional video featured interviews with doctors who touted the benefits of OxyContin for managing chronic pain. The message conveyed in the video was that OxyContin was a safe and effective treatment for long-term pain relief, with minimal risk of addiction or abuse. Purdue Pharma heavily marketed OxyContin as a breakthrough medication that could improve the quality of life for patients suffering from chronic pain.
However, the marketing video failed to adequately prioritize the potential risks and drawbacks of OxyContin. The drug’s potential for abuse and addiction was downplayed, and the promotional materials did not properly caution healthcare professionals about the potential for misuse and diversion of the medication.
The release of the marketing video coincided with the launch of a massive marketing campaign by Purdue Pharma, which included providing free OxyContin samples to doctors, sponsoring educational events and conferences, and offering financial incentives to healthcare professionals who prescribed the drug. This aggressive marketing strategy contributed to the widespread overprescribing and misuse of OxyContin, ultimately contributing to the opioid epidemic that continues to ravage communities across the United States.
The 1998 Purdue Pharma marketing video has since become a focal point in the ongoing legal battles against the company. Purdue Pharma has faced numerous lawsuits from states and local governments accusing the company of fueling the opioid crisis through deceptive marketing practices. In 2019, Purdue Pharma filed for bankruptcy as part of a proposed settlement to resolve thousands of lawsuits accusing the company of aggressively promoting OxyContin while downplaying its addictive properties.
The release and promotion of OxyContin by Purdue Pharma in the late 1990s have had far-reaching and devastating consequences. The marketing video, along with the broader marketing campaign, has been widely criticized for contributing to the opioid epidemic that has led to countless overdose deaths and widespread suffering.
In conclusion, the 1998 Purdue Pharma marketing video for OxyContin has become emblematic of the pharmaceutical industry’s role in fueling the opioid crisis. The video’s promotion of OxyContin as a safe and effective pain management solution, without adequately addressing its potential for abuse and addiction, has had long-term and devastating consequences. The repercussions of Purdue Pharma’s marketing practices continue to reverberate, serving as a cautionary tale about the importance of ethical and responsible pharmaceutical marketing.

UGLIEST
Wow, this is surreal. Even the color scheme, the black and red background, the guy's slick hairstyle and suit and tie look, it all looks very satanic. This definitely didn't age well.
it's sad cuz tramadol which is a weak opi saved my life. it works like a snri and documented for being effective for depression.
Who else hear from “Ugliest”

Still amazing !
Story time! 8 th grade I was given oxy I have never been the same I am now 34 and still taking opiates! I’m on suboxone and it’s because not being on any opiates is literally just not something I can do because my quality of life mentally is just not worth it!! I can’t believe that these people can wake up and live with what they see in the mirror everyday! To everyone that had a hand in this shit show I hope you feel like I do one day and until then enjoy the oxygen your breathing that you don’t deserve!!!
In loving memory of my brother, who died at the age of 37 after becoming addicted to these pills. I can never get him back. And, what's the point in suing? So I can be included in their bankruptcy and get nothing? No amount of money will ever bring him back and I am broken for the rest of my born days.
These people are demons on earth. The less than 1% addiction rate is a number they pulled out their ass. It's horrifying that they were able to get away with this for so many years. They were running a massive drug dealing ring right in front of everyones face… but because they are a billionare American family. They were allowed to do this.
After watching Painkiller…… omg…. Just….. omg…
Only 1 percent become addicted because most go straight to death. Hmmm.
Flat lie in this advertisement, this guy need some jail time
The drowsiness isn’t wearing off could we maybe try something stronger
sounds like a great sample for a song
Tell a lie enough times, people start to believe it.
Democrat politicians can testify to that.
Hell has a special place for scumbags like him, where the drowsiness NEVER BEGINS. 🔥 🔥 🔥
Yeah only 1% get addicted I didn’t realize how much they lied 🤥
Trust the science.
I get a kick out of all the little “painkiller” show trolls who now think that they are in the know since they watched a slick Hollywood production. LOL to the absolute max!
These medications, when prescribed and taken properly, have blessed untold millions of chronic pain sufferers with an exponentially greater quality of life. This is about our mothers, fathers, and grandparents who otherwise would be bedridden, institutionalized, or Worse!
This opioid “epidemic” is nothing short of a perverse witch-hunt and money shakedown by thugs. These same Thugs and Grifters allow illegal drugs to be sold and consumed in every city in the United States. Don’t believe it, just google “Kensington drug zombies”…and ask yourself where is the DEA?
It’s a sick joke what’s going on. Don’t be a fool, and an useful idiot for those in the Fake News Media and bureaucratic Deep State. They brainwash the masses of simpletons, then behind closed doors, laugh you to absolute Scrorn!
After watching Netflix's Painkiller, this just hits even harder…
1% 😂 how about 100% of people who take an opioid every day will become addicted?
Sureeeee. Early 2000s everyone was drugged on opiates from Perdue
I didn’t even know we had an opioid epidemic in the 90’s .we were too busy taking acid and doing coke😂😂😂
yeah the drowsiness wears off once your addicted.
Look at that guys $5,000 suit and tie. How can I not trust him
Well I feel relieved now.
