In today’s digital age, having a strong social media presence is crucial for small businesses looking to reach a wider audience and attract new customers. However, with so much competition online, it can be challenging to stand out from the crowd. That’s why having a well-thought-out social media strategy is essential.
Here are some tips for creating a stand-out social media strategy for your small business:
1. Define your goals: Before you start posting on social media, take some time to define what you want to achieve with your online presence. Are you looking to increase brand awareness, drive traffic to your website, or boost sales? By setting clear goals, you can tailor your social media strategy to achieve those objectives.
2. Know your audience: Understanding your target audience is key to creating engaging content that resonates with them. Take the time to research your audience’s demographics, interests, and online behavior so you can create content that speaks directly to their interests and needs.
3. Choose the right platforms: Not all social media platforms are created equal, and it’s important to focus your efforts on the platforms where your target audience is most active. Whether it’s Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, choose the platforms that will help you reach your target audience most effectively.
4. Create a content calendar: Consistency is key when it comes to social media, so it’s important to plan out your content ahead of time. Create a content calendar that outlines what you’ll be posting each day, and make sure to include a mix of promotional posts, educational content, and behind-the-scenes looks at your business.
5. Engage with your audience: Social media is a two-way street, so make sure to engage with your followers by responding to comments, answering questions, and starting conversations. Building a strong relationship with your audience will help you foster a loyal community of customers who are eager to support your business.
Now that you have a solid social media strategy in place, it’s time to take your content to the next level with video. Video content is highly engaging and has been shown to drive more views, shares, and engagement than other types of content. Here are some tips for filming and editing videos for your small business:
1. Invest in the right equipment: You don’t need a fancy camera to create high-quality videos for social media. Your smartphone can do the trick, as long as you have good lighting and stable audio. Consider investing in a tripod to keep your shots steady and a microphone to improve audio quality.
2. Keep it short and sweet: Attention spans are short on social media, so keep your videos short and to the point. Aim for videos that are between 15-60 seconds long to grab your audience’s attention and keep them engaged.
3. Use editing tools: There are plenty of free or low-cost editing tools available that can help you create professional-looking videos. Apps like Adobe Premiere Rush, iMovie, and Canva offer easy-to-use editing features that can help you add music, text, and transitions to your videos.
4. Be authentic: Authenticity is key when it comes to video content, so don’t be afraid to show the human side of your business. Share behind-the-scenes looks at your process, introduce your team members, or showcase customer testimonials to build trust with your audience.
By following these tips for creating a stand-out social media strategy and filming and editing engaging videos, you can effectively showcase your small business online and attract new customers to your brand. Remember to stay consistent, engage with your audience, and be authentic in your content to build a loyal following of customers who will support your business for years to come.

Another helpful video like this that would be on how to engage or attract more local (regional) customers, as well as create the online presence. For those more interested in a more domestic approach for their business – with some potential to ship internationally in the future.
For example, I have a cousin who ran a comic book/pop culture store in Newcastle (Aus) and while they did really well, they found it harder to compete against the online market, even with their loyal or local customers. They had engagement with Comic/pop culture expos but still had a tough time boosting their online presence. It's sad because they had so much variety at the store compared to anywhere else in Newcastle (which had little competition locally) and were going well but not flourishing. And they didn't know what to do next.
If they had this info on creating content for their store at the time, they would have had a much higher local & online traction. I think they eventually closed up shop and went online only… Which I am not sure it's still running. It also didn't help that Covid hit and proved too much of a struggle and they had to close up shop… Which I think was the case for a fair few amount of small businesses unfortunately. 😢
But there are so many great stores/shops that could use this knowledge and boost their traffic (local & online as well). Especially in Australia… There are so many great little gems, coffee shops, stores and online stores that could be reaching far more audiences than just their local areas… But they just don't know where to start.
I know it's about engaging your audience and getting an online presence… But it doesn't help if for example, you are a local store in Brissie, and your audience is for some reason mostly from Germany & the US. My point is, how do you pinpoint & draw in your regional audience that will help bring in more people, for small businesses that are local and are only starting to build up their online store?
If you have any advice on this it would be amazing to see your thoughts on this in another video. I know I'm also just some random who found your video to help a friend, but I find this very fascinating and interesting to watch hehe!
Thanks again! And keep it up!!
Cheers!!❤
Great video! An idea for an additional video camera position would be mounting a wireless camera on top of your Garage's/Studio's wooden beams. It could be wired as well, you would just need to run the cable and extension cable along to your computer/laptop. Wireless is easier though.
You could find the best position there and keep it filming while you draw/paint, and just use it when you think it works. Consider it a semi-permanent position. It would be great for making time lapse videos as well. 😊
Anyhow, great video. Thank you for sharing this. I've shared this with a friend of mine who is trying to get more engagement for their Australian Japanese Tools store (shogun tools – if anyone is interested).
I was hoping to see if you have any advice on creating a website to sell items on? Or what could be considered or improved on? That would be a huge help as well!!
Thanks for sharing!! ❤
