By following our 6-Point guide, you’ll have everything you need to cut through the noise and find the perfect video marketing agency to partner with. So let’s get started with…
TIP 1: YOUR PROJECT BRIEF
Before approaching a video marketing agency, it’s important to prepare a well thought out project brief. This will help any agencies you contact to better understand your requirements and outline how they would approach your specific project.
There are five key things your brief should include:
1. An outline of your project goals.
2. Important information about your brand and business that will help the agency make your project a success.
3. A clear description of the work you’d like the agency to carry out
4. Your estimated budget for the work. If you’re unsure about this, it’s still worth stating a budget range so the agencies you contact know your expectations and time isn’t unnecessarily wasted liaising with agencies that are outside your budget.
5. And your timeframe for completing the work.
Once you have completed the brief, it is then time to send it to your short-listed agencies and wait for their feedback.
TIP 2: THE VIDEO AGENCY’S APPROACH
Some agencies merely produce the video you want, while others go above and beyond this by formulating an entire campaign strategy which includes getting to know your business in-depth, studying your audience, and promoting your video content.
So you need to know what it is that you want from an agency before approaching them.
To assess the agency’s approach, look for things like:
• How well they understand your brief and business goals.
• The quality of the strategic and creative insights they provide
• The quality of their proposal
• How engaged and enthusiastic they are about working with you.
• The level of professionalism they display. Do the communicate with you in a timely fashion and go the extra mile or are you the one doing the chasing?
TIP 3: THE VIDEO AGENCY’S TRACK RECORD
Nowadays, before even contacting a video agency, all it takes is just a few clicks to access a lot of information about them. So, find out if others who’ve worked with them have found value in their service.
Make sure you check out their work portfolio, case studies and online reviews.
Also, don’t be shy to ask to speak with the agency’s existing clients for references.
When requesting references, it is better if the agency can put you in touch with past clients that had similar needs to yours. This includes references from clients in a similar sector to yours and those that had similar business objectives to you.
TIP 4: THE VIDEO AGENCY’S TEAM
Your first point of contact is generally the business development team. This is fine but make sure you learn about the rest of the team also.
Do they have a well-rounded group of creatives, marketers, and video content producers to work on your project?
When possible, talk to the creative director and meet the people who’ll actually carry out the work itself to see if you can envisage yourself successfully collaborating with these individuals.
TIP 5: BE REALISTIC WITH YOUR BUDGET AND SCHEDULE
I don’t recommend that you make your decision based primarily on the cheapest price alone as it will affect the resources available to you and, inevitably, the quality of your videos.
But, at the same time, I don’t recommend going too expensive either as this won’t necessarily equate to a better return on investment. Spending too much on your video content can make it harder and more costly to scale and will leave you with a lower budget to promote your content.
What I do recommend is allocating your campaign budget based on the potential return on investment it’s capable of generating.
Another important thing is to always look for transparency from your video agency. Do they provide a clear breakdown of what exactly they’re charging for? If not, it’s a red flag.
TIP 6: THE VIDEO AGENCY’S LOCATION
Although not as important as the other factors, having an agency which is based locally to you is an added bonus as video production is a collaborative process and being able to meet and communicate in person can be a great help.
Sometimes shoots don’t go as planned, and in such cases, it can be really convenient if your production team is based locally for re-shoots without added travel costs and inconveniences..(read more at source)
